"The posyandu and health workers or cadres monitor everyone who suffers from this disease, be it blood pressure and blood sugar. They must get standard treatment, specifically for hypertension and diabetes," she remarked at the World Kidney Day press briefing here on Thursday.
According to Susanti, there is a correlation between hypertension and diabetes and chronic kidney failure.
She explained that there are five causes of chronic kidney disease in adults, with the leading cause being renal hypertension, reaching as much as 37 percent, followed by diabetic nephropathy as much as 32 percent.
She explained that posyandu across Indonesia covered 85 thousand villages and 300 thousand neighborhood units (RT) and community units (RW). Meanwhile, local health centers (puskesmas) covered 7,230 sub-districts.
She affirmed that with the government's facilitation, health facilities can conduct early detection of kidney disease in people with diabetes and high blood pressure.

According to Susanti, increasing access to and capacity of health facilities and laboratories is needed for handling the 14 major diseases, one of which is kidney disease.
"Hence, we need to build (health) facilities in the outermost and remote regions. We need to fulfill the need for the management and diagnostics. We then also transform the health security system by increasing domestically produced medical devices and strengthening emergency response," she emphasized.
In addition to the fulfillment of medical devices, she said, health transformation also encompasses increasing the quality and quantity of human resources.
She added that one of the visions for health transformation is to facilitate early screening of kidney diseases and to educate citizens about the diseases.
