Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy has said that vocational education and training must be connected to employment needs, both in industries and businesses.

Speaking at the Presidential Palace complex here on Monday after attending a meeting with President Joko Widodo on education and employment, he said there should be interoperability and integration between vocational education and training at the upstream level.

The minister also highlighted the need to prepare a workforce that can compete at the global level.

According to him, Monday's meeting was held as a follow-up to President Widodo's directive to enhance the grand designs of economy and employment for the next 10 years.

On the same occasion, Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah said that to make the connection run well, one of the measures that the government is taking is building employment information systems.

"Alhamdulillah (thank God), Manpower Minister's Regulation Number 5 of 2024 on Job Market Information System has been issued," she added.

Regarding vocational education and training, she referred to Presidential Regulation Number 68 of 2022 on the revitalization of vocational education and training.

She said that in the regulation, the need for a job market information system has been highlighted. She affirmed that her ministry has built a job market information system called SIAPkerja.

Fauziyah further said that in the 2024–2027 period, her ministry will build labor market information and skill system transformation for market flexibility.

"We strengthen the labor market information platform through system architecture re-planning and analytical processes that create labor market intelligence. Then, there is a job market information system that is inclusive to support the skill monitoring system," she added.

The minister expressed the hope that education and training would help meet the needs of the job market within the country and outside.
