The assistance comprises food logistics and medicines that are currently needed by the people of Sudan.
“Sudan is a close friend of Muslims in Indonesia. To this end, Baznas agreed to help. For the first stage, humanitarian assistance worth Rp2 billion (has been prepared),” Baznas chair Noor Achmad said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He informed that the humanitarian assistance has been prepared under the Islamic World Solidarity Program of Baznas, which is different from the Palestine Program.
"Baznas' humanitarian assistance is currently prioritized for Palestine, but it does not rule out the possibility of helping others, namely Sudan. So not only Palestine, we also help others through the Islamic World Solidarity program," he said.
As part of its commitment to humanity, Baznas is coordinating with the Indonesian Embassy in Sudan and will continue to make efforts to provide assistance that is needed there, he added.
For that reason, he noted that his agency has invited all parties to participate in efforts to help the people of Sudan who are currently experiencing a crisis.
The Sudanese Ambassador to Indonesia, Yassir Mohamed Ali, welcomed and expressed his gratitude and appreciation to Baznas for the assistance.
Ali said that currently, health assistance is urgently needed for the Sudanese people affected by the conflict because many hospitals have been destroyed.
“Today, the people of Sudan need humanitarian assistance and the most specific need right now is health assistance,” the ambassador remarked.
