Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno views the "Jakarta-Cirebon Edu Heritage Tourism" Program as an effort to introduce historical values and stimulate the movement of domestic tourists.

"The historical value contained in historical areas is a unique and distinctive characteristic of a tourist destination. Therefore, I really appreciate this idea," the minister stated in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The minister remarked that Jakarta and Cirebon have close historical ties. On June 22, 1527, Sunda Kelapa was liberated from Portuguese colonialism by the warlord Sunan Gunung Jati, Fatahillah, who was also the son-in-law of Sunan Gunung Jati from Cirebon.

Based on the history, the edu heritage tourism introduced "Sunda Kelapa -Keraton Kesepuhan Cireon, Traces of 500 years of Jayakarta" as a theme.

The theme, which carries the values of Sunan Gunung Jati's mandate "Ingsun Titip Tajug Ian Faqir Miskin," will be marketed in several types of tourism programs to tourists.

This program will be launched on April 21, 2024, at the Kasepuhan Palace in Cirebon during the palace's traditional activities every 10 Syawal yearly, which is a series of "Grebeg Syawal" events.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Cirebon Kesepuhan Waqf Board Foundation Ahmad Jazuli expressed hope that the joint initiative with the governments of Cirebon and Jakarta as well as support from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy can help to boost tourist visits.

He remarked that the Kasepuhan Palace in Cirebon still carries out strong customs and traditions. In a year, at least 42 customs and traditions continue to be followed.

General Chairman of the Archipelago Palace Friendship Forum (FSKN), His Majesty Karaeng Turikale VIII Maros, South Sulawesi, Brigadier General Pol (P) Mapparessa, stated that the tourism package marketed in the concept presents an array of interesting attractions.

"I think this edu heritage model will also be a model that can be replicated in other palaces," he remarked.

Head of the Cirebon City Culture and Tourism Service, Agus Sukmanjaya, noted that Cirebon has several superior attractions, starting from the Mask Dance, Barong Train, Sang Cipta Rasa Grand Mosque, and Sunyaragi Cave to the Sunan Gunung Jati Tomb Pilgrimage.

In 2024, the City of Cirebon will develop five new cultural heritage-based tourist destinations.
