Jakarta (ANTARA) - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi has advised people who plan to visit their hometowns during the Eid al-Fitr holiday to start their travel earlier and return later.

"Our recommendation is to go home on Day-5 or before that. We know that the collective leave is on April 4–16, so it is possible to leave early and return later," Sumadi expounded during a working meeting with the House of Representatives (DPR) here on Tuesday.

The Public Works and Public Housing Minister, National Police chief, head of the Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG), and head of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) also attended the meeting.

Sumadi said that his side is expecting peak exodus travel from D-4 to D-2 before Eid al-Fitr, that is on April 10 and 11. Therefore, he asked people to go home before the peak.

According to him, the long Eid holiday will increase economic growth in every region.

He assured that he has taken several steps to serve the community on all modes of transportation during the exodus and return flow.

The Transportation Ministry said that it has prepared measures to deal with Eid al-Fitr transportation, including ramp checks on vehicles and readiness of facilities and infrastructure.

"We will intensify our coordination with the National Police's Traffic Corps head (Kakorlantas), and later Kakorlantas will convey when the one-way and contraflow will be carried out," Sumadi explained.

He added that his ministry will carry out cross-sectoral coordination to prepare the Exodus Post or Mudik Post, which will be open from April 3–18, so that travelers can travel safely and comfortably.
"We prepare the Eid al-Fitr moment carefully, and welcome it through coordination of the fuel provision and other transportation services," he said.
