Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Police chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, has ordered police stations across Indonesia to secure car storage services for Eid al-Fitr homebound travelers.

The services are aimed at helping community members seeking to return home for Eid celebrations in their hometowns feel at ease, Prabowo informed during a roll call in preparation for the "2024 Operasi Ketupat" here on Wednesday.

"Operasi Ketupat" is an annual operation carried out by police to ensure that people's activities during the Eid holiday season run securely, smoothly, and peacefully.

"Please provide secure car storage services for our people wanting to have their cars parked at the police precincts' parking lots," Prabowo directed during the roll call.

"Operasi Ketupat" is meant to ensure law and order during the Eid holiday season. "Ketupat" is a traditional Indonesian rice cake that is wrapped in banana leaves before being cooked.

Meanwhile, the National Police's spokesperson, Brig.Gen.Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, said several police stations have repeatedly provided secure car storage services during the Eid exodus period.

This year, those providing the services include Tanjung Pinang city police and Banten district police stations, he said, adding that locals are welcome to use the services.

As reported earlier, a joint survey conducted by the Transportation Ministry and the Communication and Informatics Ministry revealed that 193.6 million residents are expected to travel during the Eid holiday season.

State-owned toll road operator PT Jasa Marga has predicted that the peak of this year's Eid homebound exodus could occur on April 6, 2024, with around 259 thousand vehicles passing through four main toll gates.

The four toll gates are Cikampek Utama and Kalihurip Utama (Trans Java and Bandung), Ciawi (heading to Puncak resort), and Cikupa (heading to Merak ferry port).

Meanwhile, the peak of outbound Eid travel is expected on April 15, with about 300 thousand vehicles passing through the four main toll gates.

To ensure the smooth flow of cars on toll roads during the Eid holiday season, Jasa Marga announced that it has temporarily suspended e-toll card expiry.

An e-toll card expires when a user exceeds twice the normal travel time on a toll road. Thereafter, the card cannot be used to open automatic exit barriers.

Expired cards need to be reactivated with the help of a toll gate worker for toll fee payment.
