So far, 4.2 million Eid travelers have used rail services, he said after accompanying President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to a review of Pasar Senen Station in Jakarta on Monday.
"For rail transport, it is running well because the trips are already planned, tickets have already been obtained by people, so there is no pileup of passengers,” he said.
He said that the sales of train tickets have reached 98 percent, meaning only 2 percent of the tickets are still available.
As for air transportation, 420 aircraft are operating during the Eid period, increasing the number of passengers served by airports. To maximize the use of aircraft, airport operation hours have also been extended.
To support sea transportation, he has put state ships on standby, and additional ships have been deployed by the state-owned shipping company Pelni.
"Meanwhile, for land transportation, there are three locations that need attention, namely Cipali (Cikopo-Palimanan), Merak, and Ketapang. Land routes have seen an average 13 percent increase in traffic this year," he said.
Sumadi attributed the recent pileup of passengers at Merak Port to prospective passengers' disobedience. For instance, people visit the port to buy tickets for departure days that are still far away.
During Monday's review of the station, President Jokowi lauded the management of exodus traffic this year, which has been deemed much better compared to last year. According to him, good traffic management has been the result of careful planning.
According to the Ministry of Transportation, 193.6 million people are estimated to participate in the homecoming exodus to celebrate Eid, which is expected to fall on April 10.
