A deputy at the free zone authority, Wan Darussalam, said that holding the Maritime Business Forum between Indonesia and Denmark can help to build investment confidence in the city.
"This event attracts participants from Denmark, a country known for its green solutions," he noted.
Apart from that, with Batam being an archipelago, discussions related to maritime business are considered crucial to improving the regional economy.
"Batam is a maritime area, especially in the shipping sector, because that is Batam's main goal in designing shipbuilding, tourism, and service industrial areas," he stated.
"Denmark's presence fosters a new atmosphere for maritime business development," he added.
Danish Ambassador to Indonesia Sten Frimodt Nielsen said that his side was striving to bring investors to Batam to provide ideas on sources of profit that could be obtained in the city.
"I am very happy about this collaboration plan that can bring closer relations between the two countries and their partners," he stated.
"I hope that people who come here do not waste a lot of time. They can meet with local partners here and exchange ideas about the opportunities here," he added.
He remarked that the choice of Batam to explore maritime business was also seen in Denmark's success in gaining profits from maritime investment in Singapore.
