Jakarta (ANTARA) - Principal Secretary of the National Counter Terrorism Agency (BNPT), Bangbang Surono, affirmed that the BNPT is the leading sector in countering terrorism to succeed the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) in Bali.

Surono emphasized that the role of BNPT in securing various national and international agendas could not be ignored.

"BNPT, as the leading sector for countering terror, is responsible for coordinating and implementing prevention against potential radical acts of terrorism that could hurt Indonesia's image in the eyes of the world," Surono noted in a statement from his office on Monday.

He stated that the BNPT would carry out several activities at the event, including a pre-audit of minimum standards and evaluating assessments of the environmental security system and national vital objects (obvitnas) as well as carrying out intelligence coordination, at the both regional and central levels.

He also lauded the government and community for involving BNPT in the national committee for organizing the 10th WWF in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia.

"We thank the government and the community for this opportunity and trust," he remarked.

BNPT, as a member of the security and health sector for the 10th WWF, held a coordination meeting with the committee in Bali on April 20. At the meeting, BNPT was represented by Deputy for Prevention, Protection, and Deradicalization, Major General Roedy Widodo.

WWF is held every three years between the World Water Council and the host country. The forum accommodates the water community and key decision makers to collaborate and make long-term progress in addressing global water challenges.

Such activities bring together participants from all levels and sectors, including politics, multilateral institutions, academia, civil society, and the private sector. Over the years, the number of WWF participants has increased, from a few hundred to tens of thousands, both from the international community and host countries.

The 10th WWF is scheduled to take place in Bali on May 18-25, 2024.

The 10th WWF, themed "Water for Shared Prosperity," will feature discussions on three processes, namely thematic, political, and regional.
