Jakarta (ANTARA) - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno underscored that Indonesia's tourism and creative economy sectors are developed through practices of inclusive and sustainable green and blue economy.

"Through a knowledge-based economy, green and blue economy, as well as an inclusive and sustainable economy, Indonesia will be able to unlock its great potential as a global tourism destination," Uno noted in an official statement from his ministry here on Wednesday.

The minister made the statement as a speaker at the AVPN Global event held in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, on Tuesday (April 23, 2024).

Uno highlighted that Indonesia had earlier expressed its commitment to those sustainable practices at other international forums, including during Indonesia's G20 Presidency in 2022 and the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2023.

According to the minister, these two had demonstrated Indonesia's leadership in global economic recovery in addition to showcasing the country's impressive achievements to the world and becoming a starting point for restoring post-pandemic economic confidence in the country and abroad.

"Indonesia's economy is currently quite good, with an average annual GDP growth of above five percent in the last decade," he remarked.

Uno noted that Indonesia’s commitment to sustainable tourism is reflected through his ministry's programs carried out throughout the year.

Some of the programs are the Cleanliness, Health, Safety, and Environment (CHSE) program, the Indonesian Tourism Village Awards (ADWI), carbon footprint calculation, and waste handling assistance and guidance.

He further highlighted that one of the programs that will support economic development is the five super priority tourist destinations program, which is a breakthrough to support the promotion of other tourist destinations apart from Bali.

Uno also underscored that Indonesia has special economic zones for tourism that are spread across the country with various investment opportunities that they offer, including accommodation and wellness tourism.
