Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Trade has informed that there will no longer be any restrictions on the number or type of shipments or imported goods belonging to Indonesian migrant workers (PMI).

"There is no limit on the number of items in each shipment. Goods shipped can be new or used," the ministry's director of imports, Arif Sulistiyo, informed during the socialization of Minister of Trade Regulation Number 7 of 2024 and the Second Amendment to the Minister of Trade Regulation Number 36 of 2023 concerning Import Policies and Regulations on Thursday.

To ensure the ownership of goods belonging to PMIs, an integrated system has been prepared by the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI), the Foreign Affairs Ministry, and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise, he stated.

"The regulation of PMI consignment goods refers to the provisions of PMK Number 141 of 2023 concerning Provisions for the Import of PMI Goods, which are implemented by the Directorate General of Customs and Excise," he added.

Sulistiyo said that there will now be no limitation on the types of goods shipped to Indonesia, except for prohibited and dangerous goods.

"Items related to security and environmental health safety cannot enter Indonesian territory," he added.

He informed that prohibited and dangerous goods such as rough diamonds, non-pharmaceutical precursor commodities, nitrocellulose (NC), explosives, ozone layer damaging substances (BPO), cooling system-based goods, hydrofluorocarbons (HFC), non-new lithium batteries, and non-B3 waste will not be allowed as well.

The Minister of Trade Regulation Number 7 of 2024, which was promulgated on April 29, 2024, will come into effect in the next seven days. Therefore, PMI-imported goods subject to restrictions under Minister of Trade Regulation Number 36 of 2023, whether in quantity or type, can be released.

"The aim is to ensure that goods entering the period starting December 11, 2023, (that) are subject to restrictions in the Minister of Trade Regulation Number 36 of 2023, whether in quantity or type, can be released," he explained.

According to him, under the Minister of Trade Regulation Number 7 of 2024, there will no longer be any problems with goods sent by PMIs.

The socialization of the regulation was carried out by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Trade, along with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, business associations, Indonesian representatives abroad, Indonesian migrant workers, diaspora, and representatives of ministries/institutions.
