According to a statement received from the Ministry of Manpower in Jakarta on Saturday, Indonesia participated in the “Joint Working Group (JWG) on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Employment and Protection of Indonesian Domestic Workers in Malaysia” in Johor Baru, Malaysia, from May 9–11, 2024.The Indonesian delegation was led by secretary general of the Ministry of Manpower (Kemnaker), Anwar Sanusi, while the Malaysian delegation was led by Dato Sri Khairul Dzaimee bin Daud, secretary general of the Malaysian Ministry of Human Resources.
Sanusi said that during the meeting, the two countries agreed to form a joint task force (JTF) to accelerate the integration of the Malaysian systems, namely e-PPAx and MyIMMS, with the Integrated Indonesian Migrant Workers Service System (Sipermit).
"In the discussion, the Malaysian delegation said that its party was capable of completing the integration within six months, but this was not reflected in the RoD (record of discussion) to provide flexibility for the integration process," he added.
He explained that technical obstacles were experienced in the integration process as Malaysia still needs time to unify its internal systems.
Sanusi said that the two countries also discussed renewing the MoU contract on the employment and protection of Indonesian migrant workers in the domestic sector in Malaysia.
The Malaysian side submitted a proposed guideline for the renewal of work permits and contract employment of Indonesian domestic migrant workers (IDMW) as well as the process flow, he informed.
After reading the proposal, the Indonesian delegation emphasized the need to establish a mechanism to ensure IDMW welfare is maintained before the extension process is carried out, he added.
"Therefore, it is necessary to involve the Malaysian Recruitment Agency (MRA) by employers for the extension process so that the Indonesian government, in this case, the Indonesian Representative in Malaysia, can monitor the protection and welfare of IDMW through MRA," Sanusi said.
