Jakarta (ANTARA) - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said that his ministry has completed 25 out of 35 national strategic projects in the field of transportation, comprising port, airport, and railway projects.

He made the statement on the sidelines of the National Working Meeting to Accelerate Completion and Pre-Evaluation of National Strategic Projects in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Sumadi expounded that the 25 projects comprise of seven airport construction projects, 11 port construction projects, and seven railway development projects. They include the Lombok International Airport, Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway, and Makassar New Port, he added.

According to him, four of 10 remaining projects which are two railway projects and two port projects, will be completed this year.

Meanwhile, the remaining six projects will be completed after 2024, including the North-South Line and the Phase I East-West Line of MRT Jakarta.

The minister noted that a number of national strategic projects have succeeded in supporting people's mobility within the country, one of them being Yogyakarta International Airport, which has been provided with an airport rail link.

"This is proof that what has been happening abroad and seemed impossible to happen in our country is happening. And we will put our preparations to become a developed country there," he said.

To reduce logistics costs nationally, he informed, the Ministry of Transportation has developed the Makassar New Port. The port has been built to support international trade route connectivity while strengthening Makassar's role as a logistics gateway to eastern Indonesia.

"What we have built in Makassar in the form of a port and railway project shows that we are not only focusing on Java island. We have even built airports in Papua," Sumadi said.

He added that the development of transportation infrastructures in Indonesia has involved the cooperation of several parties.

Considering the limited government budget, he underscored the importance of creative financing to ramp up the development of transportation infrastructures in the country.

He expressed the hope that going forward, there would be harmonization among various stakeholders, such as ministries, institutions, regional governments, and business entities in designing national strategic projects.
