Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Provincial Government has yet to conduct on-site law enforcement for illegal parking fee chargers mostly present in front of minimarkets.

"Not yet. For this whole month, we are carrying out the humanist persuasive pattern. The governor has said that we need to conduct the enforcement with a guidance pattern. Hence, we guide them," Jakarta Transportation Office Head, Syafrin Liputo, remarked here on Wednesday.

Liputo revealed that his side also collected data on the illegal parking chargers. The Jakarta Manpower, Transmigration, and Energy Office will thereafter prepare the necessary guidance and training for them and help them to find better jobs.

"I hope that they will not say their passion is to be parking fee chargers, as the training and education we provide for them is not for it," he noted.

During this time's activity, Liputo's side found 12 illegal parking fee chargers in Bungur and Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.

The officers inquired from them about their data and made them write a statement that they will not repeat their deed.

He also referred to the minimarket operators' statement that they do not collect parking fees from their customers, and therefore, the government takes action against illegal parking fee chargers in front of minimarkets.

"We cannot directly take action because the minimarket is privately-owned, but the operator said that the parking is free, and this is why we conduct guidance and follow-ups," Liputo affirmed.

The activity of reprimanding illegal parking fee chargers on Wednesday involved 100 personnel from the Transportation Office, the Public Security and Order Agency (Satpol PP), the police, and also the military.

Such activity will continue to be held until June 2024. After that, the authorities will enforce the law, with sentence ranging from 10 to 60 days of jail and fine from Rp100 thousand to Rp20 million.
