"The manufacturing industry should be managed well together so that the growth can continue to increase. The manufacturing industry also boosts regional and national economy," he explained in Jakarta on Thursday.
He said that the regions whose income has risen significantly include Central Java and Yogyakarta.
In the first quarter of 2024, the manufacturing sector contributed 34.99 percent to Central Java's economy, recording a growth of 1.79 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, in Yogyakarta, the sector contributed 12.07 percent to the economy, up 5.02 percent year on year.
According to Kartasasmita, the good performance of the manufacturing sector is tied to support from competent human resources, who can ensure that the productivity and competitiveness of the sector continue to increase.
Head of the ministry's Industrial Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI), Masrokhan, said that to increase industrial human resources in the two regions, the ministry is holding the Industrial Vocational Fair for Central Java and Yogyakarta in Surakarta on May 16–17, 2024.
He added that the event is expected to create competent human resources to realize strong and competitive industries.
"At the Industrial Vocational Fair, 29 cooperation memorandums of understanding have been signed to bolster synergy in building industrial vocational education," he said.
According to the Industry Ministry's data, the manufacturing industry absorbed 19.35 million workers as of August 2023, or 13.83 percent of the total working-age population.
Indonesia is also among the top 10 contributors to world manufacturing products, making it a manufacturing powerhouse in ASEAN.
