Deputy for International Cooperation of BNPT, Andhika Chrisnayudhanto, stated at the 2024 Global Security Forum (GSF) conference in Doha, Qatar, on May 21 that Indonesia believes in the spirit of multilateralism through international cooperation to overcome the issue of terrorism.
"Multilateralism has been advocated by the United Nations (UN) with the ratification of the Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy focused on preventing terrorism, strengthening international cooperation, and increasing national capacity to overcome the threat of terrorism," he noted in an official statement from his office on Friday.
In this way, Chrisnayudhanto believes that a joint agenda is deemed necessary to optimally increase international cooperation against terrorism.
One of the joint agendas for intensifying international cooperation against terrorism is the 2024 Global Security Forum (GSF) conference in Doha, Qatar, on May 20-22, 2024, with the theme of "Strategic Competition: The Complexity of Interdependence."
One of the high-ranking officials attending the event was the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, who opened the event.
In his remarks, he emphasized that in order to face global security threats, all parties are required to step up international cooperation and be active in the multilateral scope, such as through the 2024 GSF that serves as a platform for sharing information and good practices as well as jointly finding solutions.
The conference also brought together high-ranking government officials, diplomats, the intelligence community, industry players, academics, and journalists.
Apart from terrorism, the event also discussed supply chain management, climate change as a threat multiplier, energy security, important technologies, such as high-end semiconductors, food insecurity, and hostage-taking practices by state and non-state actors, including the impact of the genocide in Gaza on global security.
The 2024 GSF is an annual agenda held by The Soufan Center, an independent non-profit organization that produces research, analysis, and strategic dialogue related to foreign policy and global security challenges, including overcoming violent extremism and terrorism.
