Serang, Banten (ANTARA) - The government has found and seized illegally imported electronic products valued at Rp6.7 billion (US$412 thousand) in Banten Province, Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan stated.

"Today, we found 40,282 electronic devices, worth Rp6.7 billion, here," he remarked while inspecting the illegally imported goods in Serang, Banten, on Thursday.

Hasan revealed that the seized electronic devices imported from China comprised nine types of goods, including loud speakers of varied sizes, hair dryers, and hair straighteners.

"There are nine types of electronic items here that do not comply with applicable standards and regulations. Therefore, we need to take action in the case of these goods," he stated.

The minister further explained that the confiscation was carried out since tens of thousands of electronic items failed to conform with the aspects of security, safety, health, and environment (K3L) and were not equipped with registered manual books and guarantee cards.

Moreover, he remarked that the seized goods do not have certificates for the Indonesian National Standards (SNI) as well as registration numbers.

The electronic devices violate Trade Minister's Regulation No. 21 of 2023 and hence will be destroyed.

Hasan then noted that the government would impose administrative sanctions on the importers of the electronic products and would revoke their business permits for recurring imports.

"We will impose administrative sanctions. However, we will revoke their permits if they continue to import such goods," he stated.

He further affirmed that firm actions against illegally imported goods are aimed at protecting domestic industries.

"We cannot afford to let products that do not comply with regulations dominate our markets. These products could harm our factories and industries," he remarked.
