According to the Ministry of Youth and Sports on its official website on Saturday, Indonesia secured 63 medals, comprising 22 gold, 22 silver, and 19 bronze medals from six sports in the multi-sport event.
Swimming contributed the most gold medals for Indonesia, with 11 victories. Martial arts pencak silat added 5 golds, followed by badminton (2), athletics (2), martial arts vovinam (1), and basketball (1).
Indonesia finished as a runner-up in the final medal table, behind Vietnam, which bagged 44 gold medals, and above Thailand, which won 17 gold medals in total.
Indonesia's Chef de Mission (CdM) for the event, Andri Paranoan, expressed gratitude for the country's achievement.
"What made us really proud is that we closed this ASG with a gold medal in the men's basketball event, which is historic for our basketball," he remarked.
He explained that Indonesia's achievements could not be separated from the role of all parties involved in the contingent, from athletes to the headquarter team.
"I see that everything they are doing now is the result of the hard work they put in when they were training. Thus, this is an extraordinary achievement for all the Indonesian sports in this ASG," Paranoan affirmed.
He also remarked that the ASG, which marks its 13th edition in 2024, is not merely about winning gold medals but is also an opportunity for athletes to get competition experience as part of young athlete coaching.
