Jakarta (ANTARA) - Green leadership that involves leaders implementing pro-environment movements has begun to gain traction across Indonesia, according to Environment and Forestry (LHK) Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar.

"It is very refreshing to witness the extensive implementation of the green leadership concept in Indonesia," she remarked during a green leadership-themed event followed online from Jakarta on Friday.

Bakar remarked that leaders from different generations in the central and regional governments, private companies, state-owned enterprises, and communities had begun to create green innovations that support environmental sustainability.

The minister expressed belief that the trend will pave the way for the emergence of more green figures that will lead Indonesia in the future.

She then emphasized that a leader is required as a focal figure that is capable of driving progress by inviting, influencing, encouraging, and representing people to achieve common objectives.

According to Bakar, the green style of leadership emanated from the international community's common interests in curtailing the detrimental impacts arising from human activities.

Bakar then underlined that the Indonesian nation, with its noble values and wisdom, should be able to produce a higher number of capable leaders that are supportive of environmental sustainability.

She stated that the LHK Ministry had been in collaboration with non-government organizations to promote and implement the Green Leadership Indonesia Program, which aims to boost youngsters' awareness about environmental sustainability.

She then encouraged leaders in regions to actively participate in supporting the program.

"We hope that regional governments will take part in promoting, supporting, and actualizing steps taken under the Green Leadership Program," she stated.

The third generation of the program's participants graduated last March.
