Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto appealed to the Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning (ATR) Ministry to take measures for enhancing its data protection.
In a statement received from his office here, Tjahjanto underlined that data protection is of critical importance to the ATR Ministry as it stores sensitive data on land certificates and owners.
"I would like to emphasize the importance of institutions, including the ATR Ministry, protecting data, as the ministry stores documents belonging to the government and also people across Indonesia," he remarked during a visit to the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) in Jakarta on Tuesday.
To that end, Tjahjanto suggested that the ATR Ministry augment the capability of its computer security incident response team (CSIRT) tasked with providing security services and dealing with cyber incidents.
He expressed hope that the CSIRT would be the ATR Ministry's vanguard in the protection and security of data.
"The CSIRT should not merely serve as an icon without real functions. This team must run its functions properly, conduct monitoring, respond (to problems), and be ready to handle cyber issues," he pointed out.
By doing so, he affirmed that the ATR Ministry would be an institution that wields a formidable data protection system.
"All data regarding the ownership of land plots is stored at the ATR Ministry. Hence, the ministry should carry out its mandate sincerely to protect the people," he stated.
Tjahjanto, earlier serving as the ATR minister, then called on the BSSN, as the chief data monitoring body of the recently hacked Temporary National Data Center (PDNS) 2, to anticipate every cyber activity that could threaten national data.
