Two new suspects have been named in a corruption case of liquefied natural gas (LNG) procurement at PT Pertamina in which the company's former president director Galaila Karen Kardinah (Karen Agustiawan) has been sentenced to jail.
"In connection with this development, the KPK (Corruption Eradication Commission) has named two suspects with the initials HK and YA," KPK spokesperson Tessa Mahardika informed on Tuesday.
The KPK, however, did not divulge any details about the roles of the two suspects. Their identities and roles will be shared with the public after the investigation is completed.
Mahardika lauded state-owned oil company PT Pertamina for assisting the investigation by ensuring the summoned witness was present according to the schedule.
Former PT Pertamina president director Agustiawan was sentenced to 9 years in prison and fined Rp500 million (US$30 thousand), subsidiary to 3 months in prison, after she was found guilty of LNG procurement graft.
"Agustiawan has been legally and convincingly proven guilty of committing criminal acts of corruption jointly and continuously as in the first alternative indictment," Chief Judge Maryono said while reading the verdict at the Corruption Crime Court on June 24, 2024.
She was found to have violated Article 2, paragraph (1), of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption Crimes, as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001, in conjunction with Article 55, paragraph (1), 1 of the Criminal Code, in conjunction with Article 64, paragraph (1), of the Criminal Code.
Maryono outlined several factors that mitigated her sentence, including her politeness during trials and that she did not gain the proceeds from the criminal act of corruption, had family responsibilities, and had devoted herself to Pertamina even though she had resigned.
Meanwhile, several things weighed against the verdict, namely her actions that did not support the government's program to eradicate corruption and were detrimental to state finances.
Earlier, Agustiawan was awarded 11 years imprisonment and a fine of Rp1 billion (US$60 thousand), subsidiary to 6 months in prison, over corruption in the procurement of LNG at Pertamina in the period from 2011 to 2014.
