Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Defence Forces (TNI) Information Center Head, Major General Nugraha Gumilar, stated that the 2024 Super Garuda Shield (SGS) Joint Exercise would be held at three locations, namely Situbondo, East Java; Baturaja, South Sumatra; and Karawang, West Java.

SGS Joint Exercise is a multilateral military exercise held annually by the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) in Indonesia in collaboration with the US military.

"The 2024 SGS will be held from August 26 to September 5. The landing of troops will take place at Situbondo, followed by troops drop in Karawang, and the acceleration in Baturaja. All of this is still in the planning stage," Gumilar revealed on Wednesday.

On April 29, 2024, the TNI Headquarters held a final planning meeting (FPC) for the SGS Joint Exercise with participating countries, including Australia, Japan, India, Canada, South Korea, Germany, France, England, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Singapore, Malaysia, Timor-Leste, Vietnam, and Thailand.

So far, a series of preparations for the Super Garuda Shield Training have been held by the TNI with delegations from the countries participating in the exercise, including surveying the training location and terrain orientation.

Some of these preparations include field orientation at the Combat Training Center (Puslatpur) 5 Baluran, Situbondo, East Java, on April 23, 2024.

In the 2024 SGS Joint Exercise, soldiers from the 5th Marine Infantry Battalion are planning an amphibious landing exercise on Banongan Beach, Situbondo, along with US soldiers from the Indo-Pacific Command (US INDOPACOM).

On April 25, 2024, Lieutenant Colonel Ahmad Fauzi along with a survey team from the Indonesian Navy Headquarters, Indonesian Navy Marine Corps, and delegations from the US and Japanese military reviewed the readiness of the venue and the alignment of training materials that included Tactical Combat Casualty Care, special landing drills, amphibious assault drill, air assault drill, as well as synchronization of tactics and command.

On a separate occasion, US Indopacom Commander Admiral Samuel John Paparo Jr. on the sidelines of his visit to Jakarta on June 12, 2024, said his side would mobilize nearly two thousand soldiers to participate in the 2024 SGS Joint Exercise.

"I am looking forward to returning to Indonesia and meeting my dear friend General Agus (TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto). This will be the most interoperable exercise we ever had involving the US, Indonesian, and other countries' soldiers," he remarked.
