Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has seized houses, apartments, cash, and an anti-COVID robot in connection with a case of alleged corruption involving personal protective equipment (PPE) procurement at the Health Ministry in 2020.

"In June 2024, KPK investigators carried out the confiscation," KPK spokesperson Tessa Mahardika said at a press conference on Wednesday.

The commission seized six houses and two apartment units belonging to three suspects in the Jabodetabek (Jakarta-Bogor-Depok-Tangerang-Bekasi) area. They were worth approximately Rp30 billion (US$1.7 million).

The anti-graft body also confiscated Rp1,540,200,000 (US$888 thousand) in cash from the suspect and their business partners.

It also confiscated items from the suspect's business partners, including an anti-COVID robot (Automatic Intelligent Disinfection Robot) worth Rp500 million (US$30 thousand).

The seized items also included ten Face Recognition Access Control Terminals worth Rp350 million (US$20 thousand), three four-wheeled vehicles consisting of one truck and two vans, and one two-wheeled vehicle.

"KPK investigators are continuing to search for other assets that are suspected to have come from the alleged criminal act of corruption in this case," Mahardika said.

The commission expects reports from the public and cooperation from the parties for the smooth disclosure of the case.

According to him, the case has been on since September 2023, with alleged state losses reaching Rp300 billion(US$17 million).

The KPK has named three suspects in the case. However, Mahardika did not disclose their identities.

On November 9, 2023, the KPK announced it was launching an investigation into the alleged corruption in the procurement of PPE at the Ministry of Health.

Information about the investigation was confirmed by KPK Deputy Chairperson Alexander Marwata.

"There is a suspect in this alleged PPE procurement case. We have also signed the investigation order," Marwata said.

He, however, did not name the suspect. The corruption is suspected to have occurred in the PPE procurement project at the Ministry of Health's Crisis Center in 2020.
