Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Food Agency (Bapanas) Head Arief Prasetyo Adi affirmed that his side continues to intensify the affordable food movement (GPM) across Indonesia to enable people to get access to food at fair prices and quality.

"This is one of the government's strategies to accommodate people in accessing staple food at reasonable prices and quality and to control inflation," Adi noted in a statement from his office on Wednesday (July 10).

He remarked that through the GPM at various locations in the country, people can get food at the best prices with guaranteed quality.

"This affordable market operation has also been proven to be a fairly effective instrument for controlling inflation," Adi remarked.

Based on the Bapanas data as of July 10, 2024, GPM has been carried out 5,734 times since January, with 517 activities in January in 14 provinces and 95 districts and cities.

This was followed by 838 GPM activities in 24 provinces and 170 districts and cities in February, 2,049 activities in 35 provinces and 339 districts and cities in March, and 1,008 activities in 34 provinces and 352 districts and cities in April.

"Meanwhile, until July 10, GPM activities in this month were recorded at 127 locations," Adi stated.

Adi noted that GPM would continue until the end of July at 188 locations, bringing the temporary total of GPM carried out in July to 315 times spread across 17 provinces and 101 districts and cities.

According to the Bapanas head, GPM's achievements in the first half of 2024 far surpassed those in the previous year. The GPM until December 2023 was recorded at 1,591 locations.

Furthermore, Adi noted that his side is keen to achieve the target of people's accessibility to staple foods at affordable prices and quality.

The affordable market operation scheme through the GPM program is consistently and successively implemented by Bapanas along with local governments in collaboration with state-owned enterprises (BUMN), regional-owned enterprises (BUMD), private actors, and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
