Jakarta (ANTARA) - Manpower Minister Ida Fauziyah has expressed support for digitalizing the management of Indonesian Migrant Worker (PMI) placements to improve worker protection.

"We have entered the era of digitalization, and the PMI placement management must be carried out in an integrated system between the system owned by the destination country and the system in Indonesia," she said, according to a statement released by her office on Tuesday.

Speaking at the Labor Attaché Coordination Meeting in Seoul, South Korea, on Tuesday, Fauziyah observed that digitalization is important to ensure safe labor migration in a targeted and orderly manner, as mandated by the Global Compact for Migration.

Using an integrated digital system, the supervision of Indonesian workers can be carried out more effectively — starting from the pre-work, during work, to the post-work stage — in various placement countries, she continued.

"With this system, we can improve our monitoring regarding the whereabouts and conditions of migrant workers, ensuring they receive proper protection," Fauziyah explained.

She also stressed the necessity to study and understand various regulations related to the placement and protection of migrant workers, including labor regulations in the destination country.

In the same statement, the ministry's director general of workforce placement development and expansion of job opportunities, Haryanto, informed that the meeting included a focus group discussion (FGD), delivery of materials and panel discussions, experience sharing sessions, and a coaching clinic on technical aspects of employment, foreign policy, and management.

"Participants in this coordinating meeting are expected to understand and implement their roles better, as a protection for our migrant workers and realizing a stronger cooperative relationship in the employment sector with the country of placement," he added.
