Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Agriculture Ministry will ensure that locally grown crops are used for the Free Nutritious Meals Program initiated by President-elect Prabowo Subianto and Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

Chairperson of the ministry's substance group for food crop processing, Mulyono, said that the program will need to be anticipated by his party.

"We must be able to respond to the need for free nutritious food. It should be fulfilled domestically such as the provision of rice, soybeans, tofu, vegetables, and meat," he said on Tuesday.

According to him, the food production target for 2025 includes 56.05 million tons of rice, 22.59 million tons of corn with 28 percent kernel moisture, 350 thousand tons of soybeans, 1.57 million tons of sweet potatoes, 351 thousand tons of peanuts, and 166 thousand tons of green beans.

"In 2025, we are targeting approximately 56 million tons of dry milled grain, as well as approximately 22 million tons of corn, then soybeans, cassava, sweet potatoes, peanuts, and green beans. The efforts to meet our domestic food needs have become our concern," he added.

Earlier, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati allocated a budget of Rp71 trillion (US$4 billion) for the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG), one of the priority programs of Prabowo and Gibran.

Indrawati informed that the MBG Program will be implemented in stages, with the allocation of Rp71 trillion serving as the budget for the first year.

The MBG Program budget was included in the 2025 State Budget Draft posture agreed upon in the discussion on the Macroeconomic Framework and Fiscal Policy Principles (KEM-PPKF).

Indrawati said that Prabowo-Gibran will prepare the details of the MBG Program, which will be explained separately.

The preparation of the 2025 State Budget Draft was carried out following the State Budget cycle regulated in the State Finance Law and was discussed with the House of Representatives (DPR) for approval.
