Jakarta (ANTARA) - The General Elections Commission (KPU) Jakarta Office stated on Monday that it had completed verifying the preliminary lists of eligible voters for three out of six regions.

Central Jakarta, East Jakarta, and Seribu Islands District are the regions whose preliminary voter lists have been completed, according to Fahmi Zikrillah, the Head of the Data and Information Division at the KPU Jakarta Office.

He expressed optimism that verification of the preliminary voter lists for the three other regions—North Jakarta, South Jakarta, and West Jakarta—would be completed before the deadline.

The KPU officers have been scheduled to verify Jakarta's preliminary lists of eligible voters for the upcoming regional head elections from June 24 to July 24, Zikrillah stated.

He remarked that as of Monday, the KPU officers had completed the verification of at least 99.8 percent of the 8.3 million voters in Jakarta eligible to cast their votes in the regional elections scheduled for November 27.

He explained that completing the verification of the preliminary voter lists is indispensable in preparing election logistics and other matters related to the holding of the regional elections.

The phases of the elections, such as the registration and announcement of candidate pairs for the posts of governor and vice governor, as well as district head and vice head, will commence in August.

The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and National Awakening Party (PKB)-Jakarta chapter have nominated Anies Baswedan as their Jakarta gubernatorial candidate.

Baswedan lost the recent presidential race but is seeking re-election in Jakarta.
