Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani underscored that the 2nd Meeting of the Indonesia-Pacific Parliamentary Partnership (IPPP) is an important achievement for Indonesia in strengthening relations with countries in the Pacific region.

After closing the 2nd IPPP meeting here on Thursday (July 25), Maharani noted that 12 countries, including seven speakers of parliaments, attended the meeting hosted by DPR in Jakarta.

According to the House speaker, the meeting showed DPR's crucial role in encouraging partnerships between parliaments of countries in the Pacific region to respond to various regional challenges.

"During the IPPP meeting, we were able to identify strategic issues that we are facing and how Indonesia and Pacific countries can tackle them, such as climate change, maritime, economic cooperation, SDGs, security and peace, and regional connectivity," she stated.

She explained that the 2nd IPPP meeting had three plenary sessions with three themes: Fostering Regional Connectivity and Inclusive Development, Connecting Our Seas and People: Challenges and Opportunities, and Harnessing Maritime Potentials for Sustainable and Inclusive Growth.

Maharani noted that the results of those discussions were outlined in the Chair's Summary document.

She stated that the first point of the Chair's Summary emphasizes Indonesia's commitment to becoming a development partner for countries in the Pacific.
