At the 25th ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Affairs Ministers' Meeting in Vientiane, Laos, on Saturday, Marsudi underlined that ASEAN had been contributing to global economic growth while noting that Southeast Asia's population, dominated by youths, is the world's third largest.
"These enormous potentials the ASEAN wields will mean nothing in the absence of peace and stability," Marsudi remarked, according to a statement from her ministry received in Jakarta.
The minister also encouraged the Plus Three countries to help maintain the region's preferred economic growth of 4.5 percent by supporting energy transition and digital economy, making the most of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, and collaborating under the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP).
"To follow up on the ASEAN Indo-Pacific Forum held under Indonesia's ASEAN chairmanship last year, Indonesian business players within the ASEAN Business Advisory Council are preparing the establishment of the ASEAN Indo-Pacific Business Network," she added.
During the meeting, foreign affairs ministers of ASEAN member states lauded the three partner countries for their staunch commitment to prioritizing dialogue in the effort to bridge differences.
Meanwhile, the three East Asian countries echoed their support for the AOIP, deeming it as an inclusive platform.
The foreign affairs ministers of the three countries were also on the same page about the need to preserve regional peace and stability, with the end goal of creating a resilient region.
The ministerial meeting resulted in a Chairman's Statement that highly regards the principle of mutual respect and commitment to consistently enhancing regional resilience by strengthening regional supply chains and promoting collaboration in a range of sectors.
All the participating foreign affairs ministers have also agreed to pursue the adoption of the ASEAN Plus Three Statement on Strengthening the Connectivity of Regional Industrial and Supply Chains during the 45th ASEAN Summit in October 2024.
