Pesisir Barat, Lampung (ANTARA) - The body of a French national, identified as Leo Bauthamy, was retrieved from Walur Beach, South Krui, Pesisir Barat (Western Coast) District of Lampung Province on Monday.

When contacted from here on Monday, Pesisir Barat Police's public relations head, second inspector Kasiyono, confirmed that the French national was found dead at 2:02 p.m. local time at the beach.

"The victim was evacuated and taken to the nearest local health center in Pesisir Tengah district to be identified," he said.

He informed that the victim was confirmed to have drowned around 1 p.m. local time on Sunday (July 28).

"Leo Bauthamy, 22 years old, left his accommodation at Villa Mios Bungalows riding a black-red motorcycle," he said.

He was carrying diving and bowfishing equipment with him, but no surfboard.

Before he left, he told his colleague, Daniel Ari, that he planned to bowfish at Walur Beach.

"On the same day, at around 7 p.m. local time, witness Sepriadi saw the unattended motorcycle on the seashore of Walur Beach," Kasiyono said.

Sepriadi and his friend Ardiyansah took the motorcycle to Villa Mutun to prevent it from being stolen.

Shortly after receiving report of the incident, Police visited the incident site, collected information from witnesses, and coordinated with the Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), and the Pesisir Barat Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) to launch a search for Bauthamy.

"Leo Bauthamy had dyslexia and suffered a thigh injury. Today, at around 2:02 p.m. local time, the victim was found dead and was evacuated to the Pesisir Tengah health center for identification," he said.

Kasiyono informed that his side will help the immigration authorities to contact the victim's family, support his body's repatriation, and complete other necessary documentation.
