Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia presented the progress made in developing its smart cities at the 7th Annual Meeting of the ASEAN Smart City Network (ASCN) in Luang Prabang, Laos.

Based on information received here on Wednesday (July 31) evening, the Home Affairs Ministry's Director General of Regional Administration Development, Amran, led the Indonesian delegation at ASCN.

ASCN is a platform for cities from 10 ASEAN countries to collaborate and use technology to realize smart and sustainable urban development.

Banyuwangi District, Makassar City, and Sumedang District are three out of the four pilot cities in Indonesia. Overall, 31 pilot cities in the region are under the ASCN.

During the session, all Chief Smart City Officers (CSCOs) presented their progress, challenges, and plans under the ASCN Smart City Action Plans (SCAPs).

Sumedang District from West Java presented its success in reducing the stunting rate from 32.2 percent in 2018 to 7.89 percent in 2023.

Its e-Gov Index also increased, from 2.4 in 2018 to 4.14 in 2023, through a data-driven government framework.

Makassar City then presented the "Sombere and Smart City" system as its smart city main platform, telemedicine services, integrated tax service, tourism innovation, and digital-based micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) development.

Banyuwangi District explained about its digital Public Service Mall (MPP) that made it easier to obtain 43 types of civil administration documents through mobile phones.

It also showcased its stunting response program and upgrade of tourism homestays to improve human resources, services, and infrastructure to increase the number of tourist visits.

On that occasion, Amran stated that Indonesia has received various forms of support from external partners in the development of smart cities, such as the Official Development Assistance (ODA) Fund from South Korea.

"The support from ASCN countries, cities, and external partners will accelerate sustainable investment in Indonesia," he remarked.
