Currently, a BRIDA has been erected in a total of 18 provinces and 117 districts and cities in IndonesiaJakarta (ANTARA) -
Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Laksana Tri Handoko, called on all regional research and innovation agencies (BRIDAs) to facilitate research activities in their respective regions.
"Essentially, a BRIDA is established to function not as a regional research and development body (Balitbangda) but as a facilitator and coordinator of research activities," he remarked in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Handoko emphasized that by facilitating research, a BRIDA can help its regional government formulate policies based on data and science instead of political interests.
"It is also vital that we carry out and implement derivative programs (of a policy) in a rational manner in a bid to pursue sustainability, efficiency, and effectiveness," he remarked.
The official then drew attention to the BRIDA of Southeast Sulawesi Province, saying that it has been successful in facilitating the formulation of data- and science-based policies.
He underlined that the establishment of a Balitbangda is not a prerequisite for a region to formulate such policies. On that note, he suggested that regions opt for forming a BRIDA as an institution expected to facilitate research even outside its region.
Handoko noted that the central government had issued several regulations, such as Presidential Regulation No. 78 of 2021, Home Affairs Minister's Regulation No. 7 of 2023, and BRIN's Regulation No. 5 of 2023, to encourage the establishment of BRIDAs.
Currently, a BRIDA has been erected in a total of 18 provinces and 117 districts and cities in Indonesia, he added.
Handoko further affirmed that the central government is committed to supporting research activities in all regions across Indonesia, including by providing financial assistance.
