Nusantara, E Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono stated that the community can try the autonomous rail transit (ART) train for free on August 17, 2024, in Indonesia's new capital city, Nusantara.

"Not only available for guests, but the community can also try the autonomous train. It is still free of charge," he said while reviewing the operations of the ART in Nusantara, East Kalimantan, on Sunday.

He underlined that not all cars can enter the Nusantara State Palace because the area is not sufficient to accommodate them.

To anticipate this issue, the Ministry of Transportation, together with the regional police, will regulate the mobilization.

Hadimuljono remarked that his ministry had prepared four stops to serve the community who want to try ART. He added that those four stops will be ready on August 15, 2024.

Regarding the scheme for picking up the state guests who will attend the Independence Day anniversary commemoration ceremony on August 17, the government will prepare electric buses to take them to the pick-up stops of the trackless train.

ART operating in Nusantara is an electric-based mass transportation that does not use conventional rails. It uses an autonomous system by following special markings on the road.

During the 79th Independence Day anniversary commemoration on August 17, two ART trains—with a maximum capacity of 300 passengers for each train—will serve people in the Central Government Area.

In 2024, Indonesia will hold the Independence Day anniversary commemoration ceremony in two locations, namely Nusantara in East Kalimantan and Jakarta. The ceremony in Nusantara will be led by President Joko Widodo, while Vice President Ma'ruf Amin will lead the one in Jakarta.
