Regional officials must often carry out inspection to understand the problems in the field.Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy, said that efforts to eliminate extreme poverty, especially in eastern Indonesia, require a local approach.
"Local governments need to be proactive in making breakthroughs in handling extreme poverty through local approaches. Regional officials must often carry out inspection to understand the problems in the field," Effendy expounded here on Monday.
He said that 95 percent of local governments in Indonesia have integrated their regional planning documents with extreme poverty alleviation efforts.
Those efforts include easing the burden of spending on the poor, increasing people's income, and reducing the number of poor communities.
He said that the planning must consider local approaches so that it can run in synergy with the programs and strategies for eliminating extreme poverty in the field.
"I laud the hard work, collaboration, and commitment to solving extreme poverty, in accordance with Presidential Instruction Number 4 of 2022," he added.

The ministry's deputy for social welfare improvement, Nunung Nuryartono, said that his side will keep encouraging local governments to integrate their programs to eliminate extreme poverty based on their respective cultural and regional situations.
"The integration of regional development and local culture is essential and is one of the priorities," he added.
Recently, the ministry held several coordination meetings with local governments and policy makers to accelerate extreme poverty elimination.
It is expected that with the action plan and mapping carried out by the central and local governments, the elimination of extreme poverty in Indonesia can achieve the set targets, Nuryartono said.
On June 8, 2022, President Joko Widodo issued Presidential Instruction No.4 of 2022 on Extreme Poverty Eradication Acceleration.
The goal of the instruction is to eliminate extreme poverty in 4 percent of the total population, or 10.86 million people, and bring it to zero percent by 2024.
