"Geothermal is a renewable energy source that has great potential in Indonesia. To maximize this potential, collaboration between various stakeholders is very important," API Chairman Julfi Hadi stated here on Monday.
To optimize this potential, Hadi emphasized the need for effective collaboration between the government through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, independent power producers (IPP) as developers, PLN as buyers (offtakers), and API as professionals.
Hadi affirmed that three cooperation models can accelerate the development of the national geothermal energy potential, one of which is through geothermal power plants (binary power plants), which can increase the efficiency of geothermal resource utilization.
Such collaborations can also be carried out through acquisitions and mergers of companies that allow developers to expand their operations and increase production capacity more quickly.
Furthermore, the other cooperation model is the formation of a joint venture between State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) or other local companies with foreign companies that can bring new investments and innovations in the fields of technology and bureaucracy.

As an effort to strengthen the collaboration, the API will also hold the 10th IIGCE 2024, scheduled to take place on September 18-20, 2024, at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC).
Hadi said the event brought together experts and practitioners from across the world who could help introduce the latest innovations and best practices for Indonesia.
"This activity creates opportunities to share knowledge, introduce new technologies, and establish strategic partnerships that can accelerate the development of geothermal projects," he remarked.
The Chief Executive of the 10th IIGCE 2024, Boyke Bratakusuma, is optimistic that synergy between various parties would help the government achieve the national renewable energy target.
"Thus, Indonesia can continue to advance as a global leader in the sustainable use of geothermal energy," he added.
