Jakarta (ANTARA) - The House of Representatives (DPR) would follow the decision of the Constitutional Court if the Bill on the Fourth Amendment to Regional Head Election (Pilkada) were to not be passed into law until August 27.

The registration period for candidates running for Pilkada is August 27-29, 2024.

"We produce the revision to (form) the new law. Well, if it is not passed yet in the time of registration, it means that we will follow the decision of the Constitutional Court," DPR Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad stated at the parliamentary complex here on Thursday.

Ahmad said his side will hold a leaders’ meeting and a deliberative body meeting again to reschedule the agenda for the bill ratification after the DPR 3rd Plenary Meeting of the 2023—2024 Session was postponed as it did not meet the quorum.

"Today was postponed because we did not meet the quorum. The process, whether it continues or not, must be in accordance with the mechanism in the DPR. We have to hold the leaders’ meeting and the deliberative meeting again and adjust the plenary session," he remarked.

He stated that the Pilkada Bill that is processed in the DPR Legislative Body (Baleg) is in accordance with the mechanisms.

Earlier, the DPR's plenary session to ratify the revisions of the Law on Regional Heads' Election, planned on Thursday morning, was called off over a lack of quorum.

Ahmad remarked that the plenary session was attended by only 176 DPR members, comprising 89 present at the plenary hall and another 87 who joined remotely. The number was below the quorum, set to 50 percent plus one of the DPR's 575 members.
