Head of the Jakarta Health Office Ani Ruspitawati noted in a statement from her office here on Monday that especially for 2024, some 11 cases of mpox were spread across eight sub-districts in Jakarta.
In detail, six cases were detected in January, three cases were found in February, one case was identified in May, and one case was detected in June.
Those sub-districts are Ciracas, Grogol Petamburan, Jatinegara, Kebon Jeruk, Matraman, Pasar Minggu, Tanah Abang, and Tanjung Priok. All the cases were found in people in the age bracket of 21-50 years.
Mpox cases in Indonesia, especially in Jakarta, continue to receive attention. To this end, early warning measures against mpox are continued to prevent the disease from spreading further.
Ruspitawati affirmed that the Jakarta government continues to implement a prevention and control system against mpox, including health promotion related to the prevention and transmission of mpox, and reporting case findings through hospitals and health centers.
In addition, a case-control study is conducted to provide recommendations for treatment. The study identified groups vulnerable to mpox transmission, namely men aged 20-40 years who work outside the home, are homosexual or bisexual, and HIV or sexually transmitted infection (STI) patients.
These groups are prioritized in health education and promotion regarding mpox.
The health office head remarked that the mpox vaccination program in 2023 has reached 495 people from the key population or the high-risk groups.
"So far, 495 people have received the first vaccine dose, while 430 have received the second dose. There are still 42 vials of vaccine that will be used in accordance with needs," she remarked.
With the measures taken by the government, she expressed hope that mpox would be eliminated in Jakarta and that the community would remain alert and play an active role in the efforts to prevent the spread of the disease.
