We are mainstreaming the circular economy in the 2025–2045 RPJPN…Badung, Bali (ANTARA) - The National Development Planning Ministry (PPN/Bappenas) on Tuesday put the spotlight on Indonesia's decision to incorporate circular economy implementation in its 2025–2045 National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN).
"We are mainstreaming the circular economy in the 2025–2045 RPJPN, which has just received approval for legislation recently," the ministry's deputy for maritime affairs and natural resources, Vivi Yulaswati, said in Badung, Bali, on Tuesday.
Speaking during a thematic session of the High-Level Forum on Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships (HLF MSP), she informed that by including the circular economy in the RPJPN, which will act as a reference for policy makers, Indonesia aims to invest even greater efforts in implementing eco-friendly economic activities.
As per the RPJPN, the government intends to focus on five sectors to promote the circular economy in Indonesia: textile, electronics, plastic packaging-oriented retail, construction, and food, she said.
Yulaswati pointed out that Indonesia has been striving to actualize its determination to transition to clean energy by pursuing the creation of a suitable ecosystem for the supply chain of electric vehicle batteries.

To conform with the 2025–2045 RPJPN, she added, the PPN Ministry is planning to devise a system that will help the government monitor and evaluate the mainstreaming of the circular economy in Indonesia.
"We are also looking to integrate circular economy strategies into regional development plans," she informed.
Earlier, during a plenary meeting of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Jakarta on August 20, 2024, PPN Minister Suharso Monoarfa noted that the 2025–2045 RPJPN will serve as a tool that will guide Indonesia in pursuing development for the next two decades.
He said that the long-term plan is expected to help Indonesia maintain national unity and sovereignty, play a pivotal role in the international arena, break free from the middle-income trap, further reduce poverty, produce excellent human resources, and apply sustainable development principles.
