Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi conveyed this at the Hub Talks: Future Ready Aviation Professionals, Strategies for Achieving Golden Indonesia 2045 in Jakarta on Saturday.
Sumadi, in a press release from his ministry, emphasized the need for the aviation industry to grow economically while adhering to environmental sustainability principles.
He highlighted the sector's significant contribution to greenhouse gas emissions and the urgency of transitioning from fossil fuels to more environmentally friendly energy sources.
"We must start to shift from fossil fuel to energy sources that are more environmentally friendly. The implementation of the green aviation concept and smart airport development is a concrete step that we must push going forward," he remarked.
The minister also stressed the importance of strategic collaboration and human resource development in building a competitive aviation industry.
The Ministry of Transportation continues to promote digital transformation through training and certification programs aimed at enhancing the skills and capabilities of aviation professionals.
By leveraging its demographic dividend, Indonesia can position itself as a leader in the global aviation industry, the Minister said, adding that investing in human resource development, including upskilling and digital literacy, is crucial for achieving this goal.
Moving forward, the Ministry of Transportation will focus on improving airport digital infrastructure, aviation services, international cooperation, and regulations supporting an innovative, efficient, and sustainable aviation ecosystem.
At the Saturday event, the President of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Salvatore Sciacchitano, commended Indonesia's commitment to sustainable development and its role in training aviation professionals from developing countries.
He noted that Indonesia's support and commitment to environmental protection as well as training programs for developing countries and Indonesian aviation experts at the ICAO Asia-Pacific (APAC) Regional Office have contributed positively to the professional development of aviation in the APAC.
Regional Director of ICAO APAC Tao Ma noted that Indonesia had achieved a proper effective implementation (EI) score in the ICAO's aviation safety audit, but improvements were still needed.
He recommended enhancing human resource skills through training programs to further improve aviation safety.
