The airport calibration process was carried out to ensure flight safety and security, as well as to ensure that the operation of air transportation support equipment runs correctly and accurately.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Transportation Ministry is carrying out a calibration of facilities and equipment at the new capital Nusantara's airport to ensure it meets flight safety standards and is ready to start operations.

Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said that a calibration mission flight was carried out on Tuesday as a follow-up to the Nusantara Airport's verification conducted on September 8 and 9, 2024.

"The airport calibration process was carried out to ensure flight safety and security, as well as to ensure that the operation of air transportation support equipment runs correctly and accurately," he informed in a statement.

Calibration forms the initial stage of evaluations carried out to ensure flight safety and security at an airport. The process includes adjusting and testing landing aid equipment, such as radars and navigation systems.

A King Air 350i aircraft belonging to the Center for Flight Facilitation Calibration was flown to calibrate navigation and communication equipment at the airport, and thereby check compliance with flight safety regulations.

In addition, test flights were conducted using a performance-based navigation system to verify the suitability of flight procedures.

After this stage, the ministry will carry out a number of assessments before issuing operational recommendations for airport managers.

The ministry has recorded significant progress in the construction of Nusantara Airport, which currently has a runway spanning 2,200 x 30 meters that is ready for operation.

Meanwhile, the construction of the VVIP terminal at the airport is 90 percent complete, and the VIP terminal building is nearly 80 percent ready.

The construction of supporting airport facilities, such as air traffic control (ATC) towers, operational buildings, as well as fire and rescue buildings, continues to be accelerated.

In addition, the main access road infrastructure to the airport is almost 100 percent complete.

Looking at the construction progress, the ministry is optimistic that Nusantara Airport will be ready by December 31, as targeted.

According to Sumadi, after the calibration process is complete, the airport could be used for presidential working visits.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) plans to work at Nusantara from September 11 to October 19. He is scheduled to hold a plenary cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace in Nusantara this week.
