Jakarta (ANTARA) - President-elect Prabowo Subianto is finalizing the number of ministries in his Cabinet ahead of his incoming presidency, according to Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), Sufmi Dasco Ahmad.

"The addition, separation, and other changes (in ministries in the incoming Cabinet) could not be announced now as we are finalizing it," Ahmad, who is serving as deputy chair of the executive board of Prabowo's Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party, said.

He made the remarks at the Parliament Complex here on Thursday when asked about the discourse on a likely increase in ministerial berths to 44 from the current 34.

The final composition and nomenclature of ministries under the incoming leadership will be announced to the public a week before Prabowo's inauguration on October 20 at the latest, he said.

According to Ahmad, increasing the number of Cabinet ministers would optimize the work of the incoming government and help it fulfill the campaign manifesto of Prabowo and Gibran Rakabuming Raka, encapsulated in the "Asta Cita" (eight aspires) document.

The future Cabinet will have more professionals than figures from Prabowo's coalition parties, he affirmed.

The House's Legislative Body on Monday approved the tabling of the State Ministries Law Amendment Bill at the plenary meeting for ratification into law.

Several changes to the law have been proposed, including the addition of Article 6A regarding the establishment of a new ministry for specific purposes as well as Article 9A that will allow the president to revise the structural organization of a ministry.

Moreover, the bill aims to amend Article 15 of the law to permit the president to determine the number of ministries needed, overriding the current rule that limits the number to 34.
