Deli Serdang, N Sumatra (ANTARA) - Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo stated that the 2028 National Sports Week (PON) that will be hosted by the provinces of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) and West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) will focus on sustainability.

"We will focus on sustainability in the next PON," Ariotedjo remarked after attending the closing of the 21st Aceh-North Sumatra PON at the North Sumatra Main Stadium in Deli Serdang, Friday (September 20) evening.

He remarked that implementation of the PON in NTB and NTT is expected to explore the potential of the two regions. Each of the two provinces can display its uniqueness and strength in sports, he noted.

"We will see the local potential there, and we will focus on sustainability," he remarked.

Ariotedjo affirmed that this demonstrates a commitment to not only celebrate the quadrennial national sports event but also develop the regions hosting it.

"Do not let PON leave a useless legacy. The most important aspect is sustainability," he stressed.

Minister Ariotedjo explained that his side had held a meeting with the NTT and NTB Sports Committees (KONI), resulting in new formats and mechanisms for future implementation of PON.

However, he did not elaborate on the planned new mechanism for PON in the future.

"Earlier, we had a meeting with the chairmen of NTT and NTB KONI. We came up with an evaluation, and there will be a new format and mechanism for the next PON preparation," Ariotedjo added.

The 2024 PON was held in two provinces, Aceh and North Sumatra, on September 8-20, with a total of 65 traditional and modern sports that were competed.
