Maharani made this statement during a national values briefing for elected lawmakers and senators set to serve from 2024 to 2029.
"The DPR and DPD should participate in monitoring the measures to be taken by the next government to pursue national development in order to bring prosperity to the people, make progress in various sectors, and realize equitable nationwide development," she remarked.
Maharani underscored that members of the councils would have to deal with various challenges and problems to help Indonesia become a developed country by escaping the middle-income trap.
"We are currently facing structural issues related to food and energy sovereignty, economic discrepancies, poverty, job vacancy creation, national industries, people-oriented economy, human resources, and others," she pointed out.
The House speaker then drew attention to the demographic bonus, saying that the Indonesian nation must make the most of it to leap forward.
She then extended congratulations to the elected legislators and senators who will be inducted on October 1, 2024.
"I understand your struggles, as I participated in the 2024 General Elections as well. It was not an easy fight for all of us," she said while addressing the attendees.
Furthermore, the parliamentarian underlined that all DPR and DPD members should always bear in mind the fact that Indonesia is home to people from different ethnicities and religions.
On that note, she stressed that all steps to be taken must advocate national interests.
"Essentially, our duties as members of the DPR and DPR are to do our utmost for the sake of national interests," she told the audience.
