New York City, AS (ANTARA) - Indonesia and Nepal signed a visa-free agreement for diplomatic and official passport holders during the bilateral meeting of both countries’ foreign affairs ministers in New York, the United States, on Sunday (September 22).

The meeting of Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi and her Nepalese counterpart, Arzu Rana Deuba, was held at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Indonesia to the United Nations.

The two countries’ representatives also inked a Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of Bilateral Consultations.

“The two agreements will intensify interactions between government officials of both countries while also enhancing bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Nepal, specifically in trade, investment, and tourism,” Marsudi remarked.

“I am very happy that we have been able to establish relations formally between the two countries since we have so much in common,” Deuba affirmed.

During the meeting, Marsudi and Deuba discussed key issues for cooperation between Indonesia and Nepal, ranging from renewable energy, strategic industry, and democracy forum. They also showed support for each other’s roles in multilateral forums.

Deuba also invited Indonesia to invest in Nepal’s tourism sector and hydropower development.

This bilateral meeting was held amid the High-Level Week of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly on September 22-30, 2024.

Minister Marsudi is scheduled to share her remarks on some meetings, including the Summit of the Future and General Debate session while holding several bilateral meetings.
