Penajam North Paser, E Kaliman (ANTARA) - The new airport in Nusantara, East Kalimantan, is expected to boost traffic to Indonesia's future capital, according to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

"I landed smoothly at Nusantara Airport, which currently has a 2,200-meter runway," Jokowi said during the inauguration of several new infrastructure projects in Nusantara on Wednesday.

The airport's runway, which will be extended to 3,300 meters, is targeted for completion by December 2024 to accommodate wide-bodied aircraft.

The construction of the terminal, designed to reflect Kalimantan's culture, is also slated for completion in December.

Once all land and air transportation facilities are finished, it is expected that visits to the future capital will increase, fostering a vibrant ecosystem and supporting Nusantara’s growth as a new center of government and economic activity.

"Infrastructure and facilities, both under construction and already completed, will create promising economic and business opportunities in Indonesia’s new capital city," Jokowi stated.

He emphasized that all infrastructure developments in Nusantara are crucial for economic growth.
