Jakarta (ANTARA) - The United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) commended the dedication and professionalism of the Indonesian National Narcotics Agency (BNN) in the efforts to eradicate illegal narcotics trafficking in Indonesia.

At a bilateral meeting during the 2024 International Drug Enforcement Conference (IDEC) in Athens, Greece, on Monday (September 23), DEA's Special Agent in Charge (SAC), John Scott, remarked that the steps taken by BNN succeeded in protecting the public from the dangers of illegal narcotics.

As quoted from BNN's official statement received here on Friday, Scott said he praised BNN's commitment to combating the threats of illegal drugs.

He affirmed that the collaboration between BNN and DEA had been successful.

Meanwhile, at the bilateral meeting between BNN and DEA, the discussion also revolved around joint strategies in facing current challenges in drug eradication efforts.

During that meeting, both sides agreed to continue to increase the exchange of information and hold personnel capacity-building programs in facing new patterns of international drug trafficking.

On the same occasion, Head of BNN Marthinus Hukom appreciated DEA's praise for the institution.

He affirmed Indonesia's commitment to continuing to cooperate in international forums, considering that the relationship between BNN and DEA has proven effective in dismantling transnational illegal drug networks.

At the end of the meeting, the two sides also agreed to intensify joint training programs and improve coordination for future law enforcement operations.

The 2024 IDEC was held on September 23-26. Representatives from 132 countries, including Indonesia, attended the event aimed at combating illegal narcotics trafficking.

Some agendas discussed at the conference included the Cryptologic Technician Technical (CTT) in mapping illegal drug trafficking networks.
