According to Hokky Situngkir, Director General of Application and Informatics at the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, the regulation is expected to be issued soon.
"The presidential regulation is in the works. The specifics regarding the commission and its functions will be clarified in the regulation," he said on Friday.
The regulation will outline the commission's functions, responsibilities, and status as an independent agency under the president. The ministry aims to complete the regulation before October 17.
Cybersecurity expert Pratama Persadha has urged the government to establish the commission by this date. He explained that October 18 marks the enforcement date for Law Number 27 of 2022 on Personal Data Protection.
"The law has allowed two years for personal data managers, processors, and other related parties to comply," he said.
Persadha emphasized that the law provides a clear legal framework for personal data management and introduces stricter penalties for violations. However, without an established commission, sanctions cannot be imposed.
