Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Secondary Education Affirmation (ADEM) and Higher Education Affirmation (ADik) programs have supported equitable distribution of education access for students from Papua and frontier, outermost, and disadvantaged (3T) regions, a cabinet member said.

These two affirmation programs, carried out by the Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry, cover students from all regions in Indonesia, so that they have the opportunity to receive quality education in secondary schools and universities throughout Indonesia.

The ADEM program provides opportunities for students from Papua and the 3T regions to continue their secondary education in Java and Bali, Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Minister Nadiem Anwar Makarim said.

"Nowadays, Indonesian students have a much greater opportunity to develop their potential," Minister Makarim said, according to the ministry's statement received here Sunday.

Since its launch in 2013, the ADEM program has covered 6,800 students to pursue secondary education.

In 2024, 443 Papuan students who were ADEM class 2021 completed their education at high schools and vocational schools in West Java, Banten, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, and Bali.

After completing the secondary education under the ADEM program, they also have an opportunity to continue higher education through the ADik Program.

In 2023, more than 7,614 students from Papua and the 3T regions received scholarships under the ADIk program, and 1,321 of them were ADEM alumni.

The ADik program helps students from Papua and 3T regions to continue higher education at public and private universities in Indonesia.
