New York (ANTARA) - Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi responded to the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah during an Israeli airstrike in Beirut on Friday (Sept 27).

According to Retno, she has discussed the issue with her fellow foreign ministers of OIC member states including Saudi Arabia and Jordan, on the sidelines of the 79th Session of UN General Assembly in New York.

"When we conducted a stake out with several OIC foreign ministers, we mentioned to Saudi and Jordanian foreign minister as its spokespersons that while we were gathering at this (UN) Headquarter, at the same time, tensions and conflicts were escalating in Lebanon," she told reporters in New York on Saturday (Sept 28).

She highlighted the message delivered by delegates during the High-Level Week of the UN General Assembly regarding the warning not to let Lebanon become the new Gaza.

"Do not let what is happening in Lebanon, the West Bank and Gaza become a new normal. We must stop all of this. What is happening in Lebanon has become our strong determination to resolve the conflict in this (UN) building," Retno said.

"The ball is in the court of the UN Security Council, especially the veto holders, as they can make decisions to stop Israel's atrocities," she emphasized.

For Indonesia, Retno continued, the attack on Lebanon would also have an impact to the UNIFIL peacekeeping force members sent from the country.

Indonesia has the largest number of troops sent to UNIFIL, which is around 1,200 personnel.
