Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) reminded the people to continue boycotting products made by Israel and all affiliated items to support the struggle for Palestinian independence.

"Never stop the boycott movement. (It is) because the genocide has not stopped either. We should continue echoing the movement to boycott Israeli products and all affiliated products," MUI Chairman for Da'wah and Brotherhood, Cholil Nafis, noted in a statement from the council on Monday.

He emphasized that the campaign to boycott Israeli products aims to remind the public of the condition in Palestine, where several children and women have become victims of Israeli aggression in Palestine.

According to health authorities in Gaza recently, almost 45 thousand people, largely constituting children and women, have died in the past year.

Meanwhile, the Israeli war machines are still backed by America and Europe, destroying a small area in southern Palestine, injuring more than 100 thousand people, and forcing more than two million people to live in refugee camps.

"We help Palestine according to our respective abilities. This is a matter of our common humanity, and we must not remain silent," Nafis emphasized.

He highlighted that the movement to boycott Israeli products is stated in the MUI Fatwa. The institution also issued a recommendation for Muslims to switch to local products.

This is stated in MUI Fatwa Number 83 concerning the Law of Support for the Palestinian Struggle, which emphasizes that supporting Israeli aggression against Palestine is haram.

The MUI Fatwa Number 14/Ijtima' Ulama/VIII/2024 concerning the Priority of Using Domestic Products also provides another basis for boycotting Israeli products.

The fatwa encourages Indonesian Muslims to participate in reviving the national economy by consuming local products and avoiding all items affiliated with or imported directly from Israel.

"This boycott movement should continue. This is real evidence and a clear commitment among Muslims that Indonesia faithfully supports and continues to help in realizing Palestinian independence," Nafis remarked.

To this end, his side continues to campaign for the boycott movement despite some parties considering it to be slackening in society.

"As long as the practice of human colonialism continues in Palestine, we will never stop fighting for Palestinian independence," he emphasized.
